Greetings, Zanzibar enthusiasts!
Exciting news - a recent gathering aimed to enhance Zanzibar’s tourism scene while prioritising sustainability.
Tourism is a significant contributor to the island economy, constituting approximately 30% of the gross GDP. Recognising its importance, the Zanzibar Commission of Tourism (ZCT) collaborated with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to organise an insightful workshop.
The spotlight was on the Greener Zanzibar Campaign, a movement dedicated to enhancing tourism practices by emphasising local sourcing of food and implementing effective waste management strategies.
Additionally, discussions centred on preserving Zanzibar natural landscapes, celebrating Zanzibari culture, and mitigating pollution.
Ms. Hafsa Mbamba, the esteemed executive secretary at ZCT, emphasised the critical nature of sustainable tourism. Encouragingly, progress is already underway, with initiatives ranging from conservation efforts to cultural promotion.
Excitingly, dedicated teams are actively working on various initiatives, such as
sustainable seafood programs and innovative waste management solutions.
Stay tuned as Zanzibar's tourism sector evolves towards a greener, more sustainable future! 🌴✨
